Iowa Board Approves $35K Payment in ISU Car Crash

The State Appeals Board has approved a $35,000 legal settlement with a woman who was injured after her car was rear-ended by an Iowa State University employee.

Documents made public Wednesday show the deal settles a lawsuit filed by Nancy Willett related to the accident on March 17, 2010.

The accident happened on the Highway 65 off-ramp near Carlisle in Polk County. Both vehicles suffered minor damage.

Willett said the impact aggravated her previously diagnosed symptoms of fibromyalgia, body-wide pain that is linked to sleep problems, headaches and anxiety. She says she required physical therapy and her lawsuit sought compensation for medical bills, lost wages and property damage.

The agreement was reached after a mediation session, which cost an additional $2,000.

Willett's attorney didn't immediately return a phone message.
